45 years of music in 9 minutes!

Blog & free mp3 download at http://blueskies.fm/2010/11/19/british-bands-medley/

Also my new album is out now - http://store.scratchthatrecords.com
And on itunes - http://tinyurl.com/blueskiesalbum

Stone Roses excuse: I was gonna use a song from the first album, which would have been 1989, then remembered the Love Spreads riff and forgot to change the date in my notes. So yes, that should have been after Blur.

Also some of the songs that were from the same year may be the wrong way around but... Well... I don't care. It's close enough!

As for which bands were included, or excluded; obviously everyone will have their own version of this list. My choices were based in part on popularity and importance to British music, but also on personal preference. There is also of course a good chance that I just plain forgot about someone who I should have put on there!
Feel free to share any bands who you think should or shouldn't have made it in the comments.

If you liked the video, please share it with your friends and have a look at my original music. Thanks!

  • @alphabetonly4 how is that sexist? I didn't take gender into account at all. It would be sexist to choose a female artist just to fill a quota.

  • @MusicFromBlueSkies Hmm this is true. On second thought, I guess it's just disappointing that there aren't as many successful/influential female artists as there are male in terms of the history of British music. (Just to clarify, I'm not 'blaming' you and I still think this video is amazing and that you're extremely talented!)

  • @alphabetonly4 true, I have thought about that imbalance before and never really found a satisfactory answer for it.

    And thanks for watching! :)

  • Yay, I was waiting for Radiohead, and you hit it superbly :) Thank god you did Mardy Bum, it just makes me smile, and hearing you sing it, ahh, I melted haha. But alas, the only problem, what happened to Muse??

    I still loved this though.

  • @MusicFromBlueSkies I think if you would've made it now, you'd have to put adele in there. And in my opinion Laura Marling as well, although she isn't as well-known.

  • I don't know if you like them (most people don't), but shouldn't Coldplay be in here? Or were they and I managed to miss it?

  • have you seen American Beauty?

  • SERIOUSLY!! the Blur riff was so awesome!!

  • You gotta remember that back in the 60's, 70's and 80's when most of this music was made famous, women were treated pretty poorly, unfortunately. It was a horrible view to have, but society had the view that the man was the main figure, with the woman good for nothing other than bearing children. It was a sexist time back then, it's shit I know, but that's just the way it was.

You could include somebody like Kate Bush, but her sort of music doesn't really suit Dave.

  • this is freakin amazing, criminally under-viewed !!!

  • @stokedsmallfry muse arent very good man

  • So sad that the white stripes are not british xD

  • i got the chills when u played radiohead, i must truely love radiohead...

  • quality mate, think the smiths bit was a bit dodgy though.
