as a resident of cen. tex., a active cyclist myself and a gun owner, Your first mistake liseman was to participate in an ILLEGAL parade where a bunch of ignorant & incompetent cyclists run red lights and tick motorists off on PURPOSE. Thanks for making my bike rides that much harder! Your lucky this guy didn't kill you. Two wrongs don't make it right, but if YOU hadn't been BREAKING the law in the first place you most likely wouldn't have had a gun pulled on you in the first place.

I'm willing to bet the bike lock would be considered a deadly weapon in court...I'm a cyclist, and I believe that the road should be shared. However, after witnessing multiple critical mass events in Austin, I stand with the drivers on most of these incidents. Critical mass fools are basically looking for trouble in every situation.

Critical Mass is not about expressing anger towards motorists. Critical Mass is about highlighting the fact that the necessary infrastructure to prevent confrontations when hundreds of cyclists are on the roads does not exist.
Critical Mass paved the way for events like your Thursday social to exist in the first place.
And what do your rides do for cyclist reputations? Convince everyone that we're just a bunch of drunk fools who don't know how to ride defensively in large groups?

Critical mass is about expressing anger towards motorists and it leads to heightened hostility by blocking rush hour traffic . Now and then someone they piss off also happens to be a lunatic.
It would be better if critical mass wasn't out there provoking hostility towards bicyclists in the first place.
Try the Thursday social ride instead. They know how to be courteous to cars which counteracts some of the negative stereotypes that bicyclists have to deal with because of crit mass.
