While surfing thru the videos on YouTube, I came across a selection of old films from Lake George, New York. My family vacationed there many times during the 1950s. Lake George is a long narrow lake at the southeast base of the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York State. It's approximately 32 miles long and only about 3 miles wide. It's been a popular tourist spot for decades and celebrity chef Rachel Ray was brought up there.
Looking back into my archives, I came up with the only film I made there in the final weekend of the tourist season in 1963. (I don't recall visiting there again after this time.) My father was an avid water skier and loved the cool waters of Lake George. We see him and some family friends as they ski across the lake. Though its hard to tell with the faded film, its a truly beautiful area.
Luckily, I also shot some of the downtown area of the village. The area covered is Canada St. and Beach Road.
I hope this 8mm film brings back memories to those who visited & enjoyed Lake George, NY.

  • I live in LG. It is the probably the best place i could ever want to grow up in. Nice to see videos of what it looked like so long ago and to see what my parents grew up in!

  • nice

  • We discovered Lake George as adults. We have been going there every summer since 2004. Now we go twice a year, in June and September.

Our only regret was not taking our son there as a child. He is now 27 and has not been to Lake George with us yet.. We hope some day that he may find the time to go there with us.

Lake George is such a very special place, unhurried, untouched, spritually uplifting and breathtaking. Our favorite part of the world!

  • I learned to water ski on that lake between the ages of 9-11, I think I drank 1/2 the water first though. Of course, when you learn off the back of a Chris Craft, you never forget. Could be why I went skiing this past summer on the lake at the great age of 45!!!

  • 1000 acres ranch! lol, took our senior class trip there in 1982. a great time and so many memories of upstate. thanks for jogging my memory!
