Wow 15 MPG! I have the DT466 with a 5 speed spicer in mine and I only get about 8.5 to 9 MPG running 60MPH but it was through hills and mountains so maybe thats were my loss is. I just got rid of about 12 feet of exhaust and muffler so we will see how it dose now. I was afraid it would be too loud but its not bad.

Sweet bus! I have a 1987 Thomas INternational that I would love to one day swap to a DT and 5 speed. Right now it's a 7.3 liter and an AT-545. Mine only gets about 8MPG...

how much is it to put in 6 speed and get that sound fixed and would you rater have the buses oike that or the brand new thomas c2s,ic ce300,bluebird vision

@bioshock26632 It is going to cost probably around $1500-$2000 for the swap.
I would much rather have this bus than any of the new stuff. This gets better fuel mileage, is cheaper to maintain, and I like the older style bodies much better.

what is the top spped of the bus o the highway is it hard to shift ypu do get better fual milange

This bus can go 70MPH at the moment. I will be putting in a 6 speed OD transmission to help it so it will be a little more happy traveling at 65-70 (which is the fastest I ever want to go anyways). I learned how to drive a manual driving this bus 400 miles back from PA, so I would say it is easy to drive/shift, but at the same time, I wouldn't recommend it for everyone.

why did you get manual i would of got auto

@bioshock26632 I find them easier to work on, I like driving a manual a lot better, gets better fuel mileage cause I can lug it/shift when I want to, and they are cheaper to replace or replace the clutch on than an automatic is to rebuild or replace. I have had an automatic school bus before, and it was fine, but always doing 3000+ rpms, this one does about 1500-2000 and is happy, hence my 15+ MPG. Just my personal preference, but I can see why a lot of people would like an automatic.
