Based on the best-selling novel by Judith Krantz, Mistal's Daughter tells the story of three generations of red-haired beauties, all bound to Julien Mistral, the painter and genius whose passions seared them all. From the 20s Paris of Chanel and Matisse to New Yorks sizzling modeling agencies of the 50s to the model wars of the 70s, this epic mini-series captures the scandal, passion and explosive glamour of life in the worlds of art and high fashion.
I don't think Mistral thought that he was helping the Nazi - his level of selfishness blinded him against the fate of the resistance - All he thought were what was done to him

It's difficult to believe that Mistral was never targeted after the war after this level of collaboration with the Nazis. After Germany lost, partisans did terrible things to collaborators--shaved their heads and even murdered them. In fact one of Krantz's later books, 'Til We Meet Again, has just this sort of retribution. I can't remember what happens to Mistral in the book after the war, but I don't believe he's even any sort of pariah in the town.
