Sadly I had to return my new A55 and Carl Zeiss lens after seeing such a soft image in video. I was so sad and disappointed that my older Cannon Vixia HFs10 camcorder took sharper video than this A55, and that was with a two grand Carl Zeiss lens!! DAMN that sucked. Taking pictures was awesome, great list of tricks up it's sleeve that I've not seen before. I'm thinking the firmware is purposely holding back the video quality so as not to compete against some of their high end video cameras?

I know that this is an "insider" question. For a camera that does nearly EVERYTHING that DSLR cameras at a (significantly) low price would never do, I was surprised that Sony left out a slower framerate to give it the edge over the Canon 550d/T2i. I am a Sony salesman, so I understand everything about this camera and how you CAN get 30p framerates at the lower, non AVCHD formats. Is there a new version coming out that will change this? Seems odd to intentionally lose the edge for Sony.

@sonyelectronics Thanks I appreciate it. I did also notice the low bit rate of the video, maybe that's why it's image is a bit on the soft side? Everything I've seen on the Panasonic GH1 hacked firmware at bit rates around 45/50mbs look so INCREDIBLY sharp in video and takes great pictures too. But I don't want to have to hack firmware to get what is should of been doing out of the box. I'd love to come back to the A55 when the firmware is fixed. Still haven't bought any thing yet.
