Hello everyone in Youtube Land!

Welcome to the Classical Music Challenge. This is actually a survey about your opinion on Classical Music.

Over the last several decades, there has been only a very small market for this kind of music. The great composers like Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Sibelius, Beethoven, Wagner, Mahler, Debussy and so many others are overlooked in favour of contemporary pop music.

No one has ever said that pop music wasn't valid. However many people feel that Classical Music can offer something more. This is the opinion held by many people who find that Classical Music offers much more depth in the music listening experience.

So, what is this challenge all about? I am simply asking your honest opinion on what you think of Classical Music. Is it out of date? Is it meaningless? Is it boring? Think about why you don't like it and be prepared to give a good reason.

Before you give your answer, why not take some time to actually listen to some classical music. The amount of time you listen depends on you. I would like for people to at least listen to about 15 - 30 minutes of Classical Music, or even longer. You can get it from the internet or the radio or wherever. Perhaps you are already a Classical Music fan and just want to express your opinion.

So please, post your video response and let others know what you think of Classical Music. You may be surprised after listening to some at what you've been missing. You may find Classical Music a nice addition to what you are already listening to. Thank You.

  • I love classical music and I have listened to it for many years. I don't know why some people say that it is boring when they haven't heard any classical music at all. I love classical music and I always will. Great video!

  • It's only Tchaikovsky who fires a cannon.

at least I've never seen Bieber do something like that

    I think that says all

    P.S. I'm 15 too

  • Classical music the #1...since i was young i use to like pop music, until i joined choir and fell in love the the harmonizes, today i listen to only classical music (and music from musicals) and dont understand why people dont like it!

  • As much as I enjoy rock and all that, I also like classical music. It's beautiful, wholesome music that is pretty damn timeless.

  • I have been a complete fan since age 4 1/2 - I'm 'old' now. I think it a huge mistake to try and bring a recruit in with the classical and romantic composers, though - just too many social cliche associations, cultural ditto, and an era whose emotions do not seem so immediate to a neophyte. Try something by Carter, or all those earlier 20th Century masters (leave the serialists for later!) to engage / surprise that person you wish to draw into this great body of works.

  • classical is harder to play and is superior since other kinds of music just satisfy your most basic human instincts.

  • I think classical music is not popular today because people do not have fun so much like when they listen other kinds of music. People can dance and be wild when they listen rock, pop, techno...they are involved in it...but when they listen classical, they are passive and I think because of that they think its boring. I love to listen it, but if it can not be changed in way that brings more fun to modern people, which is I believe the main reason of any kind of music, I believe it will die soon.

  • this academic western music is one of the most beautiful creations of human beings, it's unbelievable how humans can write operas and symphonies, and at the same time create massive weapons that can destroy a whole country.......

gracias a diso que existen expresiones tan bellas como el arte musical, que ocntraresten un poco la bajeza humana

  • I grew up with Western classical music. The only thing that bothers me is that people forget to tag it as WESTERN CLASSICAL MUSIC. India has Carnatic music, which is classical. China and Japan, Thailand and Cambodia also have their own classical forms.

  • Have them kids listen to Jean-Féry Rebel's "Chaos" from his symphony-ballet Les Elémens (1737) and then ask them what they think of it. :)
