You'll notice that since this is still the same stage, Trevor's life bar and hearts are still the same as they were when he "left" the previous area. Time and Hearts are not converted into score and health is not replenished until after you defeat a boss and receive one of those odd glowing orbs and you receive the "end of stage" jingle and then move on to a new area. The only time when this is not the case is for Stage 2, because the door you originally entered to begin it also serves functionally the same role as beating a boss for whatever reason. Don't get used to freebies like that, because I think it's the only exception to the rule.

Anyway, I don't know why I bring that up, because Trevor didn't leave the stage...and this particular Trevor obviously never visited any clock towers, so why would he know about something like that? He's just continuing the stage, so stop trying to confuse him, you agent of Dracula!

The forest is pretty weird if you keep going in deeper at the branch...I mean, as near as I can tell, Trevor is being attacked by aerial jellyfish that split off into smaller ones...and some of them seem to have parked themselves on the ground and will burst open automatically when someone should be foolish enough to draw near.

Oh well, that's only one screen and those guys--I think later games will identify them as "Balloon" enemies, and Balloons will have the nasty habit of inflicting Poison status on more modern adventurers--because just waiting around for you is a stage boss.

A cyclops with a hammer, that's reassuring. I'm told that this guy is actually much more cruel to the player than the original game's version of the boss...the only way I can imagine this could be is that he turns around randomly if you get behind him, but I honestly couldn't think of anything else about him that's not relatively standard.

He has two main forms of attack. If you're close to him, he'll try to smash you with his hammer...and if you're far away, he will sometimes start up a charge (maybe that "sometimes" is another area where he might be less predictable and thus harder than the original) that will definitely overtake you if you don't find your way to a platform and jump over him.

There's a breakable block in the arena here...but honestly I would advise strongly against removing it, because it means you will lack a means of regaining the high ground on the left...making you pretty much out of luck if you're on the wrong side of the cyclops when you break it and forcing you to take a hit if you don't eliminate him before he barrels his way on over to that side.

Oh, and an interesting note for the record. If you don't exit the stage early at the branch, you'll still be in Stage 3...so losing all your lives at any point after that will result in your being sent back to the beginning of Stage 3 rather than the beginning of Stage 3's post-fork sections. Just something for consideration.

  • This reminds me--will you be getting Castlevania the Adventure Rebirthed, or whatever it's called?

That third boss didn't look so tough. It looks like you could just stand on the left and jump whenever he gets close.

  • Normally I'd do just as you described, but I figured that would be boring to watch and I wanted to be able to demonstrate the location of the meat, even if it's strategically not the best move I could make. If you've got Grant, you can take the meat AND jump to safety.

I probably will get Castlevania Adventure Rebirth, especially since I never played the original on which it is speculated to be based, said game has something of a reputation of being pretty bad, I'd still have liked to play it.

  • Oh yeah, for once, Grant has the advantage here because he can jump over Cyclops.

Sounds pretty weird though, taking the meat and jumping to safety. Sounds like a twisted game show.

  • Not only that, but Grant can still reach the platform that you didn't break that Trevor is unable to jump to, which is completely safe to stand on above the Cyclops's range of attack.

Of course, the ability to freely swap player characters without timer or enemy progression means you can generally swap to Grant when you need to make an evasion or do some climbing and swap back when you want to attack...and if you HAD to take a hit, Trevor's your man, what with his lower damage incurred.
