Farmers in Transmara district are counting losses after maize estimated to be worth about 20 million shillings continue to rot in their farms. The farmers are blaming the loss on bad weather and bad seeds used in planting.

  • I am wondering why those who are interested in the politics of maize are blind to the motive behind the maize waste in certain Districts and not others. Truthfully there is something fishy here. Obviously the money meant for the restocking of the maize reserves is released yearly. Where is the money for this year? Has it been set aside to await the maturity of maize in particular environs? Why was the tax waiver for maize imports extended to June 2010 while Kenyan produced maize goes to waste?
