Part 3 contains these rare BBC performances:

1. Louise - Seldom heard BBC track.

2. I've Been Trying - Unreleased! A nice moody Keith Relf number.

3. Shapes Of Things - Different BBC version than the one that is usually heard.

  • Someone didn't like this? What a weirdo!

  • @shorttermmelody probably a Justin Bieber fantatic...............= )

  • Spot on mate! Listening to Keith in such blues numbers like New York City Blues or moody songs like Return To Earth ( absolutely love his voice on this one!! ) makes me appreciate what this one lung asmatic could do.

  • I remember hearing "I've Been Trying" on a cassette/boot that was making the rounds in the Seventies. Don't know if this is the same version. Relf's singing here is really really good. REMEMBER THE YARDBIRDS!

  • @brentebut yes.....this is the same cassette you are alluding to. This is the only version of "Iv'e Been Trying" I am aware of in all my years of collecting Yardbirds stuff. Agree......Relf singing is very good here. Even though Keith constantly gets flak from his vocals ( NOT from me ) I really like his unique voice, rather listen to him them Mr Plants cat with its tail caught in a closed door sounds.........

  • This is great, thanks for the post, totally awesome, oooh so great!

  • @chiefmech23 thanks!! Glad you enjoyed them!!

  • Very interesting, historic tracks here. You couldn't find any Jeff Beck pics? I don't get it, you tagged it properly, then put a bunch of Page's pics on Jeff's performance. Oh well, great post anyway.

  • @shorttermmelody No doubt! It's probably because younger folks (and even people my age, 45) think that all music has to be mathematically perfect, and sound like it's MIDI and done on a computer.

  • Great YB track. And some good pics of Jimmy Page! (My fellows, I will always love Jimmy Page!) He could play just about any style (and forged his own style), and he understood stagecraft and showmanship too, without being cosmetic and shallow.

  • it sounds like paul simon is singing

  • Someone didn't like this? What a weirdo!

  • Hi Y68 I think most folks listen for technical abilities in singers - big voices, range etc. But style or a mood a singer can put you in is more compeiing. Plant had lung power, Relf had one lung. I also much prefer the latter of the two. Keith could establish a mood that few Sixties Rock vocalists could. It was foreboding, edgy, punkish and one of the few British R&B voices that didn't focus mainly on imitating Black Blues men from the USA. He really had something. Long live Keith Yardbird!
