@Domzdream David seems to have an agenda other than the prevalence of reason. He seems to me as fake as any evangelist beggin cash for faith. He's outlining specific criteria to adhere to for atheism. . and urging for money. The focus shouldn't be "don't believe in god and challenge it" but SHOULD be "let's stick to what we know and religion holds no water in this arena".
@Domzdream ==David makes a lot of unsubstantiated assertions. I don't believe in any god nor do I refute existence of anything metaphysical(according to our CURRENT understanding of physical.. afterall, there is a lot that is not currently directly discernible through modern methods of detection. I.E. Dark energy, dark matter). Atheism is NOT a belief system, but he is MAKING it one. However, atheism is ACTUALLY nothing more than a non-adherence to theistic beliefs.
@Domzdream Wrong. Pixies, fairies, etc, are supposedly of this world with physical attributes attributed to them. Specific gods can be refuted.. such as the christian god..based off the reasoning behind their existence(bible, etc). However, existence of a generalized metaphysical entity is irrefutable and thereby irrelevant. Therefore, adamant refutation is as ridiculous as "faith" in ones existence. Focus needs to remain on what IS relevant. --
-at that. But then you can draw a synonym with the belife in pixies, fairies (all the other gods), or anything supernatural which boasts a higher intelligence that of a creator of the universe. And it's easy from there on.
We HAVE no evidence of any of these things.
That's why agnosticism fails.
Agnosticism is theoretically right. But not at all in practicality.
Well, you are right there. Atheism can be a religion. It most certainly is a belief system, just like theism is. Except when we can demonstrate that there is no god(s) by simple logic, not even using the bible- the theist can not.
Off the bat, when a religion defines itself through faith rather than knowledge, it fails. KNowledge ALWAYS trumps faith.
Then you could say. well you have faith that there is no god, which becomes more a complex discussion, and a lengthy one at -
Dave sounds like a priest... It's his type that make atheism as much of a religion as theism. . Like a priest he takes a very long time and a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing.
Very interesting point of view, Dave. Don't agree with you completely, but I understand and appreciate your "get things done" approach. You are doing a job, which needs to be done, you're right. I just think you might be missing a bit of the background fundamentals: atheism as a thought process. You appear to be following and trusting it without using and applying it IMHO.
What a heck of a responsibility to be involved in politics for a group of people. Kudos. I'll just hide and pretend its not happening... (Hide).

I seems to me that Silverman's take on atheism is a political one. "Atheism is not for everyone"...
What does that mean?
