how are you able to move the burners back? Are these some how flexible so that you can pull them back far enough to block the ports?

Reduction occurs during the firing by introducing too much fuel into the kiln and/or restricting the chimney. The fire pulls oxygen molecules from anywhere it can, including the clay bodies and the glazes. Covering the holes slows the cooling and prevents re-oxidation

As I know nothing about reduction firing, I am wondering is this cooling down stage when the pots are exposed to the reduction atmosphere? Or have the pots already been reduced? It seems the covering of holes to prevent drafts also prevents oxygen, therefore, I am guessing this is when reduction occurs. Am I correct?

What a hard brick beast of a kiln. 16 hours...makes me very thankful for my IFB kiln. Looking forward to seeing the opening.
