The Legacy Farms Project is a residential building development planned to be completed on the land formerly owned by Weston Nurseries in Fall of 2012. Under Weston Nurseries' ownership, the natural landscape was more or less undisturbed. While this will certainly not be the case under Legacy Farms, there are benefits to the 940 dwellings being built on the land, such as the revenue for the town that will be gained through real estate taxes and permitting fees. In these difficult times, it is becoming harder to convince citizens to take strong action to preserve their environment when it isn't always profitable to do so. However, organizations like the Conservation Commission are able to maintain a happy medium between economy and environment by allowing businesses to build and expand only if they respect the existing natural ecosystems.
