While Driving through San Francisco I stopped off on the USS Hornet. Didnt know too much about it, other than it was a ship with a long history. 14 bux, but well worth it, especially if you have an interest in naval warfare and WWII. The ship was fascinating, the more so as I had never been on a big carrier before. They also have quite a large moon exhibit as they were the carrier that recovered the Apollo 11 astronaughts, but thats coming up in part II!

  • Yeah he's travelling across America to see the sites because he wants to hate on them every chance he gets. He's going to waste all the time and gas hating up a storm. He's also right, our history is very slanted. Can you accurately describe Custer's Last Stand with the information they taught you in school? NO.

  • "jonthebaptist666"

"You just really want to hate on America any time you can"

    rubbish

"The Dolittle raid was a sorely needed symbolic morale victory" TF never said it wasn't

"It was a show of bravery by those involved"

    Absolutely.

"there is no big deal over calling it "huge victory"." Wrong!

This was no victory, it was a suicide mission and no mention of the bravery and sacrifice that the young men is made. Calling the Dolittle Raid a "huge victory" makes their sacrifices meaningless.

  • "Pull to arm" Should've given it a go, would've been good for a laugh :P

  • @05swanbe

Yup Koreans as well. You are right about that, but even still... two wrongs don't make a right.

  • @Charles2337 I wasn't talking about Pearl Harbour. I'm talking about the Asian Holocaust; burying people alive, 'beheading competitions', torture, CANNIBALISM OF LIVING PEOPLE, human experimentation and biological warfare. The Germans killed six million Jews and 20 million Russians; the Japanese slaughtered as many as 30 million Filipinos, Malays, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Indonesians and Burmese, and at least 23 million ethnic Chinese.

Some people are far more wrong than others.

  • @05swanbe

Both sides were equally evil. Two nuclear bombs killing hundreds of thousand innocent people is worse than the Pearl Harbor attack. No one is right in war.

  • Hahaha, the Japanese complaining about war crimes!

    Oh the irony.

  • It was just a dumb plaque, copy written by some marketing schlub. Don't take all of America to task for something dumb like that.

  • @PaulFarace No It was not sunk. This Hornet is the ACTUAL CV-12 Hornet. It is the 8th and final ship to bear the name "hornet" It was originally going to be named the USS Kearsarge until the USS Hornet CV-8 sunk in WWII. I would know. I live nearby it an have been going there for almost 12 years.

  • @PaulFarace This Hornet was built right after the CV-8. The CV-12 still say battle but the Doolittle Raid was with the CV-8. The CV-12 highest point was picking up Apollo 11. But it's still has a lot of history behind it. If you get a chance tour the ship. I've stayed a few weeks on it. Pretty cool.

  • That HORNET was sunk a few months later, bloke! You're looking at the REPLACEMENT HORNET... Most Auzzies I know are pretty smart, especially about WWII... who let this idiot out of the country? Keep him home shoveling shit out of the kangaroo cages. Virtually ALL OF HIS FACTS are WRONG!

  • The Missouri is in Pearl Harbor, The New Jersey is in camden, NJ.
