For thousands of years Magna Graecia was the western sphere of the Historical Greek World. This video is part of a series created to highlight the Greek civilisation of Magna Graecia and expose the forces and events that brought about its demise. This video is also a reminder to the enemies of Hellenism that the memory of Greek civilisation in Magna Graecia will never die. Please also see the two other parts of this series titled "Asia Minor - Hellenism of the East" and "Constantinople - Greek Orthodox Spiritual Capital".

  • don't worry, here in italy we really appreciate greek culture and its legacy in southern italy! we all know about great magna graecia! indeed we are the only country in europe and the world (except you greeks, obviously) that still has greek as a subject in classical high schools! but i must say that it's really sad that greek language is almost diappeared down there. kisses from italy!

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx Thank you for commenting. Im very happy to hear you say “we all know about Magna Graecia”. We can’t change what happened in the past but the future is up to us. I sincerely hope whatever Griko culture exists can be preserved & whatever was lost can be restored. Southern Italians deserve to know that most of their ancestors had a Griko culture for 2000+ years & this was systematically crushed by foreign forces that supported Latin-based culture. ITALIA MERIDIONALE=MAGNA GRECIA!

  • As a Southern Italian, I thank God the Greeks colonized my land. They were great people and did so many wonderful things here. Viva la Grecia! "Una razza, una faccia".

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx Thank you for your true and kind words.

    God Bless Greece and Italy

  • @sopotinos oh no, the true greeks are still the ones who live in nowadays greece! they may have been under turkish rule, but they (together with the other balkan people) maintained their traditions and culture, they fought for their freedom and never surrendered or converted. to me they are the proudest and bravest people of all times, we owe so much to them!

  • Vive la Grece !

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx Be proud of your Hellenic heritage, you are purer Greeks then we are in Greece.I keep telling all my Italian friends that come from Rome south that they are true Greeks

  • My friend, I'm a Greek of Calabria. I speak Greek but I write in English so the other people can understand: you made two little mistakes. The former: the church you said It's from Rossano, in reality It's in Stilo (Reggio Calabria). The latter: the Church in Monreale has been built by the Normans, using Byzantine, Latin and Arabic elements of style

  • @aclaparat777 you're nice too :)

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx They're legally named Autonomous Communities (So they have some powers to self-rule.) by the Spanish Constitution, some are just regions others are considered nations. Evidently, spanish nationalists wants them to remain as regions, but catalan, vasque, galician (and some others) nationalists wants independence from Spain. The reason why Portugal is sovereign and Catalonia not is historical, and maybe luck.

    Thanks, you're nice ^-^

  • @aclaparat777 oh sorry, I have to admit I'm quite ignorant about your people, I only know that in spain there are different official languages as well as different nations, but I never really understood if they are only "regions" or autonomous states, so I always called spanish everyone who came from Spain. indeed, I consider myself bergamasca rather than actually italian. well, then thank you my catalan friend for correcting me :)

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx Ou, nop, no spanish, but catalan ^-^

  • @aclaparat777 indeed I am surprised and pleased my spanish friend!

  • @xxnecspenecmetuxx You would be surprised and pleased to know that we also study Greek and Latin in High School in Catalonia and Spain, at least that's what I know for sure.
