The annual Tomcat community ball was known as "Fighter Fling". Starting in 1989, the best video clips from all the squadrons were compiled into a short movie and played at the ball. I had the privilege of making the final two videos, for Fighter Fling 2003 and 2004. This is part 5 of 5 for the 2003 video, uploaded straight from the original source.

Love the shots with both afterburners on, perfect choice for "Burring that Gasoline". The F14 had a vertical climb capability, the airframe had been rated for 6g's but had taken over 9g's without damage to the airframe. With it's vertical climb capability, it could reach it's service ceiling of 50,000 feet in about a minute. Very impressive, even by today's standards, mach 2.3 capable and able to carry the very best weapons ever launched from a carrier, the F14 even had nuclear capability.

Seems that everbody is missing the big cat. Though I never saw one in real life, I've been a Tomcat-fan since I can remember. Every year around September I get a little sentimental, since that was the official retiring month. Pour myself a whiskey and salute the finest fighter that ever flew, and all the men and womem who flew her. May fighter spirit live on forever!
