On December 23, 1962 at Jeppesen Stadium in Houston, Texas, the Dallas Texans beat the Houston Oilers 20-17 in double overtime to win the AFL Championship.
The following year Lamar Hunt moved the Texans to Kansas City, Missouri to become the Kansas City Chiefs.
This is a short sampling of the game.

  • Somebody uploaded this wole game here on YT.

  • @pbrick6301 ok time to go back to the crazy house

  • @conewells Maybe not but what is is what is. I guess they figured since they wouldn't be shown again, than what was the use of saving or even recording them? It seemed to have been a common sate of mind in the 50's and 60's. We gotta be thankfull that Ed Sabol founded NFL films and filmed a lot of this stuff.

Of course NFL films didn't begin to coer the AFL till 1968 2 years before the merger so this piece in itself is quite interesting.

  • @MIKECNW NO excuse, Mike. Thx for the info. What kind of Zero-Vision lame-brain programmers did they hire in those days?? How the hell do you NOT tape a historic game like SB 1?? (AND SB 2) Wow. Mind-boggling.

  • @conewells From what I undersatnd most games from that period weren't preserved. A year ago the WSJ reported on its website someone who worked for a CBS affiliate in PA recorded the first Superbowl broadcast which was not done by the netowrk on even NBC which also covered it since by that time they were covering the AFL.

  • The Houston Oilers vs. the Dallas Texans. Now we have the Houston Texans

  • Jeppesen Stadium is now known as Robertson Stadium, the former home of the Houston Dynamo. The University of Houston Cougars still play its football games there.

  • ABC broadcast this game.

  • @pbrick6301 Another conspiracy nut. Bet you believe in 911 conspiracy, badgman and the Easter bunny,

The cause of the Apollo I fire is well documented down to the very component that failed. Nasa did not kill

    Grissom.

  • Why couldn't they have saved the tape for the 1962 PACKERS-GIANTS title game that year? It was a brutal game. (I only have the film highlights). I would pay top dollar for a copy of the video broadcast...
