Marni Nixon sings a version of A Spoonful of Sugar. This is on the Disneyland LP 10 Songs from Walt Disney's Mary Poppins album and features Marni Nixon as Mary Poppins, Bill Lee as Bert, composer Richard M. Sherman doing a version of I Love To Laugh ala Ed Wynn, and Pamela Shannon as Jane Banks. It is also noted that Marni Nixon and Bill Lee were also known as Hollywood's "Ghost singers" for many actors and actresses in Hollywood.

Marni Nixon, of course, did the dubbing duties for Audrey Hepburn in MY FAIR LADY, Deborah Kerr in THE KING AND I, and Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno in WEST SIDE STORY. She also contributed to the original soundtrack of MARY POPPINS as one of the barnyard animals in the "Jolly Holiday" number.

Marni is brilliant in EVERYTHING she does!

  • Wow! Although Julie Andrews ruled in Mary Poppins, Marnie Nixons adds her own lovely style when she sings this. Love it, thank you!

  • Take good care of it....that is a rare collectors item!

  • Yay, I had this album with added narrative by Bill Lee. If anyone's got that edition then a full upload to YouTube would be most welcome.

Also condolences to Marni Nixon on outliving one of her own children, the singer/songwriter Andrew Gold.

  • Marni is heard in the film, too: she sang for the geese in the barnyard segment of "Jolly Holiday".

  • I just have always thought that Marni and Julie sound like vocal twins. I can't pick a favorite; they are so deliciously similar in their sweet, clear brilliance. I'd love to hear them do a duet in their prime.

  • Marni's voice is really good but Julie's is still the best...

  • she has such a lovely beautiful voice

  • i have the original mono version of this soundtrack, like 20 songs on it

  • This is first version of the soundtrack I had as a kid. I didn't get the actual soundtrack until a couple of years later. I'm hoping Disney will release this on iTunes eventually, as they have with several other of their rare children's albums, such as the Darlene Gillespie recorded "Alice in Wonderland" soundtrack and the "non-soundtrack soundtrack" of "Lady and the Tramp."

    Thanks for posting this.

  • perfect.

  • It took me quite a while to find a record like mine on here.
