12 Barks

It suddenly occurred to me that the answer to my procrastination problem was staring me right in the face. Literally.

Things not done piled in a stack
Seems like I have a knack
For putting off the things I need to do
Like paying the bills
Washing the car
Instead of wishing on a star
I need someone to help me get through
I think I'll teach my dog to bark at me each day
In a special way so I'll know what he means

One bark for dishes that aren't done
Two barks for having too much fun
Three barks for all the leaves I never seem to rake
Four barks when I should mop the floor
Five barks for going to the store
Six barks to count the daily walks that we should take

The fridge could use a cleaning out
The tiles could use a dose of grout
But many other things are calling me
Like reading a book
Writing a song
Taking a nap that's nice and long
My spirit's just a little too free
I think I'll teach my dog to bark at me each day
In a special way so I'll know what he means

Seven barks for watering the plants
Eight barks for dealing with the ants
Nine barks to tell me I should check under the hood
Ten barks to make a daily list
Eleven barks for birthdays that I've missed
Twelve barks to tell me that he thinks that I've been good
And that he thinks I've done the very best I could
