Hi Drechu88,
you wrote:

The XM2 is not capable of true 16:9 (which is 720x576 pixels with an pixel aspect ratio of 1,42). Instead it crops the 4:3 image, stretches it internally and writes that onto tape. The camera is ok in doing that, but anyway you are losing some vertical resolution because of the interpolated scaling.

An anamorphotic lens stretches the image in an optical way, so you are filming in 4:3 mode of the XM2, resulting in a true anamorphic image without interpolation. The adapter also works as a 0.8 wide angle converter so you get a greater field of view.
The disadvantage of using the adapter is that you get some vignetting in the widest angle and you can't fully zoom through, so it is not possible to focus in the last third of the tele angle.
Hope that explained it for you.
