Bluesman Huddie Ledbetter's UK release of a song first recorded by Bessie Smith (?).
Anyone know what 'EXEMPT' means on the label?

  • Sounds better then all the filtered (and therefore destroyed) cd releases I have downloaded and heard on spotify. :) It is alive!

  • @Falkis1984 I was certainly tempted to whack the sound with a bit of filtering....and thought 'no, sounds better like this'. Glad you appreciate it

  • Yes - sounds great!

  • Fabulous Treasure!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for this fabulous upload (and for many others) Exempt ? That relates to the need to pay import duty on recordings. A small stamp was applied to the label to confirm the tax had been paid. These stamps can still be seen on many 78's.Your copy escaped that charge maybe because of where it was pressed or perhaps it was a sample, I will need to research the law and date of repeal of the 'stamp duty' requirement. I wish you a very merry Christmas. Keith

  • great song
