You have NO idea how much of a pain in the ass it was to get this game to run!

First of all, I had to download 800 different torrents before I found one that had seeders.

Then, the game kept crashing in Windows XP and Vista.

I tried running the game under DosBOX but the game requires windows to run.

I installed Windows 3.11 under DosBOX...except I had no graphics drivers so I was stuck on 16 colours (game is 256 colours).

I scoured the net until I found special DosBOX video drivers that I could use to get 256 colours. I ran the game and it worked except now I had no sound.

I downloaded soundblaster drivers and tried to use them but every time I loaded windows the sound kept skipping and repeating some annoying windows chime over and over and over...it's screwed.

I scoured the internet some more...

I realized the game came out AFTER windows 95, and therefore it probably ran just fine in windows 95. So, I downloaded microsoft virtual PC and created a new virtual windows 98 computer...put in my windows 98 se cd and installed windows 98 on my virtual pc (lol).

Everything worked fine except the game ran too fast now. I had to get a program called "Turbo" which allowed me to slow down my computer.

After that it worked fine. Whew!

Ironically, I don't even like the game that much. I bought it when it came out because betrayal at krondor was great...but I got bored of it and lent it to my friend and he beat the game (and scratched cd#3 so i could never finish the game lol)

If anyone actually wants to play this game I reccomend the following:

1. get/download the game
2. get/download windows 98 se
3. get/download microsoft virtual pc (free)
4. figure out how to use virtual pc and create a new virtual machine + hard drive and boot it
5. Put in the cd, tell virtual pc to detect it and boot the virtual pc off the windows 98 cd to install windows 98
6. Once finished, in windows 98 install betrayal in antara
7. run turbo, run antara, set turbo to the right amount of slowdown
8. enjoy

This and Majesty are the top 2 games on my list for "old games I want to play again but are a pain in the ass to get working"

I couldn't find turbo when I looked for it again. It's such an obscure program and it's even worse that it has such a generic name. A billion other things show up when you search for turbo on google.

I mean, I did get the game to work...so yay...but it took me ages and it wasn't ever that great of a game.

I mean it was good...but I never bothered to finish it. Eventually I just got bored.

Just so you know, there's now a 32-bit Xp/Vista Installer for BiA. It requires you have the CD either pre- or post-install, but if you own/pirate the game it works fine either way. Also works on Windows 7. Just Google "SquirtTheCat" and it is/should be the first link. (I'm a loser and still have my CD's for it)

@sharpbandit Im curious to know how you did this, did you use a torrent and daemon tools? I recalled playing this game when I was younger and never beating it and wanted to do so, but I've lost my CD throughout the ages. Help a brother out? :)
