Released in October of 1955, "A Prize of Gold" starring Richard Widmark had him driving around Germany in a Messerschmitt KR175. The film is NOT available on DVD or VHS that I can see and it has only appeared sporadically on Television. Here are ALL the segments that feature the KR175 driving around. What "Roman Holiday" was for the Vespa, this film was for the Messerschmitt.
Watch how he handles opening and closing the canopy *OUCH*!
Also- listen for his references to the KR175:
"I've got a car here ...well, its sort of a car",
"We're really too young to die like this" and
"OK, more thrill rides!"
Note to Turner Classic Movies: RELEASE THIS ON DVD PLEASE so we can BUY IT!

  • I was actually serving in the Royal Military Police,in Germany at the particular time this movie was being made.....where may I obtain a copy from ? Brian Scott...Perth. West Australia.

  • @scottbrian449 are you unable to read the descriptive portion of this?

It clearly states the movie is not available on VHS or DVD. You cannot get a copy of this movie at this time. It appeared once on Turner Classic Movies on TV, that is it. Turner owns the rights to this and it is not even available from their website, where they sell lots of DVDs of old movies they own.

  • would very much like to obtain a copy of this great movie....but where from !?.. Tony7 Good..Perth West Australia..

  • That's George ("Arthur Daley") Cole at 3.27. He also drove a white Heinkel Bubble Car in "Blue Murder at St Trinian's". The same car was also driven by Ian Carmichael in the films "Double Bunk" and "I'm Alright, Jack".

  • Does anyone have a copy of this movie? My mom (Monika Kossmann) played "Lisa" in the movie, one of the kids in the orphanage I think

  • I would really like to see this film again. I haven't seen it since it first came out and it has a great cast including Nigel Patrick who was one of the UK's leading actors. But the thing that really draws me to it is the sight of Germany in 1955. I have spent a lot of time in Germany over the years but not going that far back. It's fascinating to see it just 10 years after the the end of the war.

  • Anybody see the split window bus?

  • im waiting since 1997 to see this.

Thank you very much for sharing :)

    5 stars

  • The car...a classic! The movie...forgetable. Thanks for posting.

  • No doubt about it...the 'schmitt was the true star of that potboiler!
