Dennis Potters last interview before his death in 1994. A very interesting, and at times, moving interview.

  • It's sad to see so few people now know who Dennis Potter was. This made an indelible impression on me when I first saw it on ABC TV (Australia) after his death. He was a truly great writer, he chose to write for TV - perhaps because he could reach a bigger audience. He called his cancer "Rupert" (after Murdock) His often quoted remark that he would shoot the 'bugger" but didn't have the time was marvelous.& his analysis of the venal nature of corporate society was prescient.

  • "I asked a waiter for an ashtray and it was just as though I'd shot him in the back."

    Brilliant quote.

  • what a guy. thanks for posting! i remember watching this as a kid.

  • I hope Dennis, wherever he is, is enjoying the unravelling of Rupert's empire.

  • What a loss to literature. When I was a young teenager, I was never allowed to watch his work as my parents thought it was too rude. He was a genious of his time and as a woman, don't feel it was exploitative - thought he was speaking to me. Thank you for posting this. PS Melvyn brave for holding it together. Catherine
