Esta es la canción con la que Laurie Anderson se hizo famosa, y el puntapié inicial a su carrera discográfica. Me pareció interesante ir haciendo más "accesible" de qué va... ¿cómo interpretan ustedes la letra?

Cant remember what number this got to in the charts but I can only imagine how strange things were that this was there on the radio and that was normal.

Strange? Look up at the 1981 billboards (Google helps). I don't think this was "normal" at all. But very inspiring, indeed.

The kind of song that make you stop doing things and just listen to it and think how perfect it is. Its so paradoxical becaouse I get to know Laurie trough documentary about Dennis Nilsen, a cold blooded murder who, apparently, had a distinguished taste in music. Strange

What I don't get is how NOBODY, none of the comments, make refference to what the song is SUPPOSED to be about. Full name: O Superman (for Massenet). You can't understand it unless you understant Massenet's O Souverain from his opera Le Cid (1885), which is based on Corneille's play (1636), which is in turn based on Cantar de Mio Cid, written about 1200. This song is a commentary on the condition of mankind and humanism. It may not be music, but still genius!

It was after a time when we had to deal with lame James Taylor and Melissa Manchester songs. Music was getting bland and needed a shake up. I wish things were so artistic today.

Put up some examples I can chase !! I remember "Nellie the elephant" being played ! In essence I say , there was an acceptance of odd / origonal music played at the time and this song was not as outrageous as it may seem now.
