I went to check on the worms because they were escaping, and when i tried to turn the bin, the bottom inch was like a brick. I then realized that the bin was nearly solid vermicompost and they were nearly out of food! (only a few small pieces which I put in the new bin.) I also added a little sand for grit, a few egg shells, filtered water and non-color soy-ink newspaper.

For indoors, I suggest you don't bring any leaves or sticks in from outdoors, because they can have tiny eggs that hatch in your worm bin. Such as spiders, earwigs, gnats, and so on.

  • My compost looks like mush. Did you dry that out? Or do you keep yours much dryer than mine? I hear all kinds of things.

  • Yes, that is completely dried out, which probably is a bad thing, but i didn't intentionally do it, it is from long term storage. In fact, I still have this compost which was harvested over a year after I made this video. It isn't because I don't want to use it, it is because I am still having trouble producing it consistently.

Red decomposing soil mites are EVERYWHERE in the millions or billions most likely, but they seem to be helping a lot. I have earwigs and spiders too unfortunately.

  • I bought some 40 pound bag of garden lime for $4.50 from walmart. I hear there are 2 kinds of lime, garden lime and concrete lime, so what i got, should be safe to add to my worms, instead of buying calcium pills which cost WAY more. The calcium pills i recently got, had WAY more sugar than calcium, and refined sugar is bad for a worm bin and defeats the purpose of adding calcium!

When I made this video, I used pure calcium pills, with no sugar.

  • It is easier to crush egg shells than paying for expensive calcium pills or lime. Plus egg shells are natural and cheaper.

  • Wow - that's very nice looking vermicompost!

  • If you buy Lime, make sure that it doesn't have Potassium in it - that is bad news for worms.

  • That Vcompost looks great. It is awesome that you are showing people Vcompost it is the best for organic gardening.
