کلام اقبال از با ل جبر یل

وہي ميري کم نصيبي ، وہي تيري بے نيازي
ميرے کام کچھ نہ آيا يہ کمال نے نوازي
ميں کہاں ہوں تو کہاں ہے ، يہ مکاں کہ لامکاں ہے؟
يہ جہاں مرا جہاں ہے کہ تري کرشمہ سازي
اسي کشمکش ميں گزريں مري زندگي کي راتيں
کبھي سوزو ساز رومي ، کبھي پيچ و تاب رازي
وہ فريب خوردہ شاہيں کہ پلا ہو کرگسوں ميں
اسے کيا خبر کہ کيا ہے رہ و رسم شاہبازي
نہ زباں کوئي غزل کي ، نہ زباں سے باخبر ميں
کوئي دلکشا صدا ہو ، عجمي ہو يا کہ تازي
نہيں فقر و سلطنت ميں کوئي امتياز ايسا
يہ سپہ کي تيغ بازي ، وہ نگہ کي تيغ بازي
کوئي کارواں سے ٹوٹا ، کوئي بدگماں حرم سے
کہ امير کارواں ميں نہيں خوئے دل نوازي




My power of making music
Has been of no avail;
I am unlucky still;
Thou art still unmoved.

Is this a world of mine,
Or a magic of Thy art?
Is this the world of the body,
Or the world of the soul?

My days and nights are tossed.
In a storm of confusion,
In the yearnings of a Rumi,
Or the bewilderment of a Razi.

What doth the eaglet know,
Seduced by wolves and ravens,
About the eagles vision,
About its ethereal flights?

A lyrical strain this is not,
And I know not the the strain;
I seek sounds melodious,
Be they Arab or Persian.

Thin partitions divide
A pious man and a king;
One has a seers power,
The other has power of the sword.

Please do forgive me for posting a comment with an error in quoting the name of the great qawwal. It is actually MOHAMMAD ALI FARIDI and not Iqbal Faridi.

The present day's great qawwal Mr. Farid Ayaz tells me that he has some very fond childhood memories of the great Mohammad Ali Faridi. Sorry for the earlier posted error.

The Qawwal is Ustad-ul-Asataza IQBAL FARIDI. I knew him personally as he was a friend of my father's. The inimmitable Iqbal Faridi presented this Kalam on Radio Pakistan in the ? 1950-1955 period. It was transmitted on Iqbal Day on numerous occaisions. A Soofi himself, he lived in the barest minimal comfort. Among his many students was Tufail Niazi also. Considering other recordings of those days, the quality of the recording is extremely good.
