Vulcan XH558 Test Flight, 18 October 2007, at Bruntingthorpe Airfield. Recorded by Primetime Videos for the official Restoration DVDs. For more information visit www.tvoc.co.uk.
why is the gear down all the time, im sure at waddington, finningly and scampton, ok 40 years ago, the pilot pulled it up when the ship was in the air. or am i missing something obvious. a small clue, i was on a lighning squadron at Binbrook.
Test flights for new (or heavily reconditioned) aircraft are almost always carried out with the landing gear down

I've never heard something like that

Very nice sound and editing. I hadn't seen this particular first-flight video before. Thanks.

They did retract the gear ,just look carefully at the sky news vid on youtube and their long range camera can pick it up.

well worth the money, and well worth a trip for me in 2008 to see the beast airborne again.

well done to all.

Interesting to hear you were at Binbrook. I grew up in Market Rasen and it was a special treat when I was a kid to go and see the Lightnings.

Wonderful vid, thank you.
It is curious that the undercarriage wasn't retracted. Perhaps they were testing "dirty" flying characteristics as opposed to a gear failure?
Whatever the reasons, it is a real dream come true to see this wonderful aircraft back in the air!
