There a rumor/myth about 10 years ago, that the ibm system i security was so bullet-proof that the drug cartels in Peru were using System I's for tracking shipments.

Well TGTDCo that is an odd thing to say about PowerSystems. I'm using a 795 with i AIX and Linux, and you sir may go bite your bum.

@TGTDco Operating systems still serving businesses today have their heritage in the '80s or early '90s. IBM i is used by companies around the world today in very modern ways, using modern interfaces, to keep their TCO low, while getting the most out of the Power System platform - a high performance platform. It's true that IBM i and its predecessors can still run older applications - binary compatibility has existed for decades - but it is more than an 'iSeries" was in 2000. Far more.

Cheaper sure, MySQL is free after all...But try taking a look at the TCO compare to Oracle or MS SQL Server...

    Faster is debatable...

More secure than IBM i? Not likely. Though I'll grant that there are lots of poorly secured IBM i's.

An yeah, the 5250 interface is from the 80's, but the heart of the system has changed considerably. And guess what, you don't have to use the 5250 interface now-a-days.

Pretty dumb as there are cheaper, faster, and more secure options and alternatives to an I series.

Biggest hate on the damn thing is it's literally shined shit from the ,80s

Use one some day and you'll be like "this is dumb"
