This is my very first George Gershwin piece, and I had lots of fun playing this one. :)

For those who have no idea who Gershwin is, he is an American known as a contemporary classical composer, but he fits in the borderline between classical and jazz. This is one of his most well-known preludes. He is also known for his Rhapsody in Blue.

I played this piece (including two other pieces) for a scholarship competition called the Stillman-Kelley Competition, where I my CD recording was competing with 23 other states. Just couple days ago, I found out that I got 2nd place in this competition and received $500! :)

ENJOY!

  • i loved it, but, why didnt you make a video of you playing it?

  • A video wasn't required for a scholarship that I applied to.

  • you really played this..?

  • Lol, why?

There was no other song that I can learn by an American composer in less than two weeks.

  • On first look the piece appears to be easy, but the tempo of this song gets me every time! I feel as though I have to play two completely different tempos for both the left and right hand.

  • Ahh. XD I don't know, I think I got used to the rhythm, because I've been taking jazz band for two years. I'm used to the different rhythmical feelings now. :D It's so fun though, and I love the different jazzy rhythms that Gershwin uses!

  • Thank you very much !

  • c'est vraiment génial! c'est en effet la meilleure vidéo que j'ai entendu pour ce prélude.

Dorénavant, je le jouerai ainsi. Merci de m'avoir donné un peu d'inspiration pour jouer ce morceau.

  • Fantastic! Really good interpretation. The run at the end was a teensy bit messy, but all the other runs are fantastic. You play in such a clean and articulate style! Keep it up!

  • Wow! This is amazing! You are so talented! I'm thinking about learning this and I want to know if you have any suggestions for me? =)

  • Thanks dude, it gives me a first idea of the piece, in general =)
