last year at SFU, me and a group of classmates travelled around BC documenting the Native Perspective involved in the fish farm issue.

So I guess your tribe isn't in favour of hatcheries to rebuild wild stocks then ? Alaska has rebuilt a huge wild (albeit half farmed ) salmon industry through millions of dollars being spent on hatcheries.

Hey jmans - you are on to something alright. Alaska dumps 1.5 billion hatchery raised salmon into the open ocean each year. This is not for the bears, but for the commercial boats to catch and call 'wild'. It may be safer to keep hatchery raised salmon in nets for their entire lifecycle (ie. farming) than it is to let them compete in the wild with naturally wild salmon where they can interbreed and compete for limited food.

it's funny. My tribe thinks hatcheries are better than fish farms. What a joke. Hatcheries are more dangerous than fish farms. Genetic dilution. No wild salmon left.
