the first day off I had after purchasing a new video camera I headed down to trackside at the Tecolote Siding in San Diego, Ca to test it out. I stopped there with the intent of watching 774 and 583, which usually meet either here or just south of here at CP Friar (Old Town). At 2:57 a seemingly on-time (ok, 5 minutes early) train 774 rounded the corner. The engineer called out the signal at the intermediate just around the corner, but his voice sounded off.. he sounded like 572's engineer. What surprised me even more was he identified himself as train 768, as did the dispatcher moments later when he called to take back the lineup at CP Ash.

I figured at the time, partially correctly, that 768 had suffered some major delay, and the crews for 572 and 768 had been swapped to keep things slightly organized. I would later find out the train had indeed been delayed by a Rockslide up in Santa Susana Pass, and it finally arrived in San Diego at 3:07 PM, 2:42 late.

Sorry for the low quality, as I said it was my first time using the thing, but this vid's only being posted as an amusing add-on to CoasterMike2105's video, which was missing this very train after he'd given up at a spot about half a mile south of me.

  • I thought 455 was painted in operation lifesaver colors. Or was that a different engine?

  • 455 only spent a year in that scheme, this was before it was applied, and it has since been removed.

  • the reason mike didnt see it is because mike has a fuckin life.....you should get one fast douche bag.

  • Funny thing is, no offense to Mike, his video from the same day included about six other trains, equalling about two hours trackside. I merely stopped to film two trains on my way to pick up the kid from school. I'm gainfully employed, have a home and a family, and don't go criticizing other people I don't know for no apparent reason. I'd like to think I have a life, it's certainly better then yours I guess. Goodbye.
