Sounding like a locomotive twice her size (and with assistance from a lone SD50), Reading and Northern 4-6-2 425 pulls a 14-car excursion from Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe PA.

As always, 425 is working hard with incredibly LOUD stack talk. The engine crew was fighting a constant battle to keep the power to the rails as R&N 425 slips numerous times (quite violently towards the end of the video) on the climb from Port Clinton to the ex-CNJ part of the line at Haucks.

  • That blue pacific was the engine that rekindled my interest in railroading. Love that engine. LONG LIVE THE 425!

  • now, was she slippping whenever the engineer would throttle down, and then come back slow

  • nothing like a train working lol and you can even see the sand being applied as it goes by after that major slip towards the end!!!

  • I wonder how many stops they made for sand on that trip.

  • SHE IS A BEAST!!

    A LOT OF WHEEL SLIPPING!!!

    WONDERFUL!!!

    I LOVE IT!

  • very fun to watch... sure miss those whistles. good work.... thanks

  • What a symphony - sheer musical pleasure. On the Discovery Channel when showing such videos of steam or indeed of diesel locomotives they put "idiot" noise (music) which drowns out the symphony of what we like to hear.

My wife has just had a quick look and said "what a beautiful engine" Oh twud gladden a fellas heart!

Thanks for the video it is just fantastic.

An awful lot different from the "West Clare Railway" Not far from where I live in County Clare, Ireland.

    Best wishes from Ireland.
