Located on the Waianae coast in Mākaha Valley, the Kānē`ākī Heiau is an ancient Hawaiian temple built in the 17th century that was first dedicated to Lono, the god of agricultural fertility. This video shows the work that has been done to restore the heiau, complete with the structures of thatched pili grass and a wooden carved figure.
When entering the area, one immediately will realize why this place is considered as sacred ground—it is such a peaceful and beautiful location that one can't help but recognize the presence of Ke Akua. During our visit, we were blessed with an occasional drizzle—reminiscent of the type of rain that falls on Kalaepōhaku in the late afternoon, just before Mass at the Hale Malia Marianist Community—while we paid our respects and offered oli pule.
