For this project, I chose to examine the dichotomy which exists between TV/Movies and Commercial Media (commercials, magazine ads, billboards etc.) in terms of the differences between particular gender roles taken on by shaper of the home. In television and film, you see the limits of gender roles and gender identity being incrementally pushed to the limits of social acceptability where as in commercial media; there is more of a traditional position taken when it comes to gender role of the individual responsible for the construction of this intimate space. I believe I have successfully portrayed the aforementioned idea within this project by using various clips from TV/Film as well as commercials (as early as the 1980's and as recently as 2010) to display transgression of spatiality and assumed gender identity within the home. I have drawn largely on the conventional idea that the home is a female space and that TV/Movies continue to push the envelope when it comes to the gender of the individual shaping this space. I hope you enjoy my video and please feel free to give feedback!
