Macleay Island is "The Way Things Were", peacefully located in beautiful Southern Moreton Bay's Marine Park where dugong, dolphin and huge turtle are frequently sighted. It is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 200 species of birds, commonly curlews, parrots, lorikeets, cockatoos etc., thriving in its unspoilt bushland and gardens, all seemingly unafraid of people.

The population is around 2200. (1970 last census). Approximately 1/3rd of the island's houses are weekenders for keen fishing/boating/'escape to nature' folk, so the population swells on weekends & holidays. There are Doctors, a Dentist, Ambulance service, 2 supermarkets, a Chemist, several food businesses, well supported Boat Club, Golf and Bowls clubs, a primary school, Bendigo Bank, Landscaping suppliers and other services on the Island, which also has a well patronized Art Gallery, Pottery and craft clubs amongst other activities.

We are a safe (lower insurance premiums) generally caring community!

Macleay Island is served by half hourly fast Passenger ferries (15 mins) and several vehicular barges a day taking 40 minutes, from Redland Bay, then only 45 minutes to central Brisbane in off-peak traffic. (Or 75 mins to the Gold Coast).
