Many of my fellow trash haulers out there across the world have the luxury of not being required to pick up grass clippings, tree limbs, leaves, pampas grass, etc, with the garbage.
Must be nice!!
The city of Wichita has been considering a ban on yard waste (green waste, or whatever you would like to call it) from the waste stream for over a decade, but nothing ever gets done, they keep putting it off.
Since this is a free market, all the competing haulers must do what the customers expect to win their business, and a large part of what they expect is for their chosen hauler to dispose of not just trash, but all of their yardwaste as well.
This will never change unless the city enacts an ordinance prohibiting yardwaste from the landfill.
The only time of the year us drivers get a break from this burden is in the dead of winter, when its too damn cold for anything to grow and no one wants to go outside!
This is some footage from last fall that I never used, sorry there has'nt been much recent hopper action lately, but I will have some for you all when I can.

  • Has anything ever busted under the pressure of the compactor and flew out and hit you?

  • Yes, I have two scars on my face to prove it.

The first time was almost 10 years ago, I threw in a small cheap wood entertainment console thing, and somehow one of the wheels on the thing flew out of the hopper and hit me right in the eye.

I couldnt see out of that eye for 2 days because it swelled shut, but other than that and the blood there were no long term side effects.

The other time I dumped a cart and the metal catch bar on the cart flew off and hit me in the same eye, needed stiches.

  • nice job man how many tons you pack in that monster anyway ?

  • The most I ever put on so far is 13 tons, but a typical packed full load is between 10- 12, depending on what sort of crap I had to throw in that day. If there is alot of cardboard and bulk stuff it packs out faster with less tonnage, but if its mostly just regular trash it packs a heavy load.

  • lol 5:35 looks like a pain in the... to fix and pull out of the truck. i would have compacted the cart depending on my mood then.

  • @WasteCnxsideloader DAMN!!!!!!!!!!Hope you were okay.

  • @Nomad1718 cause "green waste" takes up more room in the truck than normal garbage, just like recycling, ( unless its grass clippings which are very heavy(wet) and compactable thus putting more weight on the truck in the same amount of space as branches would take up)

  • @Nomad1718

just guessing from viewing the video. but I think yard waste is a pain in the a** because it has so much volume yet is so light, that it compresses badly, it needs more time in the press than regular waste. Thus the garbage man gets less done in his work-time.

    am I correct, WasteCnxSideloader?

  • Exactly why is yard waste such a pain in the ass for the garbage man?

  • cool bubbles

  • anybody just reply whats that pink colour thing at 3.13

  • 3.13 whats that pink thing is it pillow

  • You couldn't have told that to my late wife. Her sense of smell was so keen that there wasn't anything I could do but buy some chemicals for composting that stopped the smell.

  • A properly made compost file WILL NOT smell.
