Posted on the 25th anniversary here:
http://strangelyperfect.tv/2764/heysel-stadium-29-may-1985/

The genesis of the Crawling Chaos track "Fatso Died and Likes It" can be found here http://crawlingchaos.co.uk/discography/waqqaz

The band had just finished the track (which was piss-take of the state of football and all it's punditry at the time) and sat down to listen to it with the TV on in the background. The Heysel Stadium disaster was on the news, almost live.

For me, the track and images from that day are forever linked.

On the 25th anniversary, the comments have hotted up. This is best summed up from a comment on the UK Guradian article here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/may/28/heysel-disaster-25th-anni...

"What is really tragic is that the underlying tribal and, to put it mildly, xenophobic attitudes amongst so-called fans and the police that lead to this and other tragedies are still prevalent twenty-five years on."

  • "If you want to understand the causes that existed in the past, look at the results as they are manifested in the present. And if you want to understand what results will be manifested in the future, look at the causes that exist in the present.."

  • @montebardia Well said, although I had to use a translator as I know no Italian. Too many comments here are from people who live to hate, continuing the worst possible vices in human nature.

  • the picture at 1:40 is tragic. how could liverpool fans do this ? they did this on purpose right?

  • @shqiperiany They all took part but some from each "side" decided that the football wasn't enough. Both sides threw missiles. The crap stadium happened to collapse at the Italian end. On another day it may have been the other end. But without the violent intent inherent on that day, the stadium would have stood up as it had for years. I'm sure there was bad intent by some, but to collapse a wall wasn't it, and most folks died under the wall.

  • The Liverpool fans charged them for heaven's sake!

  • @turkeylad Yes? If you expect me to defend this violent day or the actions of those in it, then you've asked the wrong person. Watching it again brings it all back; the day it happened and what I was doing that day (i.e. making this track).

  • scousers rule ... dont fuck with liverpool fans they will kill ya

  • english cowards against families.....english cowards have killed 2 childrens, womans.......fight with ultras not with womans, english animals!!

  • @mdr23

sure they both threw missiles- but it was liverpool fans who breached the dividel and invaded a section for the italian fans, the result was people pressing against the wall and the wall collapsing- thats more than bad intent- they may not have known the wall would collapse but thier illegal and violent actions caused it to collapse- so they are responsible

  • @Megapolable Yes the Roman Empire...Peace RIp 39 Juve Fans

  • @Megapolable and a tragedy took place, we accept responsibility, do your part and accept responsibility as well instead of solely blaming the opposition. Ive been to Liverpool and you have some of the nicest people on earth, our fans are the greatest in the world and ive been to Italy and you have some of the loveliest people on earth too, one unfortunate incident doesnt change a thing. If you think it does may I remind what was the most violent empire in history?

  • @TheJuventinatosta if youre not racist then you wouldnt call the english animals!!! thats a general insult to all the people of england..and bec of what? bec you suppose some 100 of the millions of british football fans went wild? were juve fans saints that day? they had knives and pistols and threw firecrackers, and bec of that liverpool fans charged them and other uve fans died bec the wall came over them. Get your facts straight both sets of fans were hyperviolent

  • BASTARDI

  • @Megapolable you do not bring shame to Italy .... I'm not racist but in this case you were real animals!!

  • @53rp3n7 You are a Moron, you dont deserve to an Italian or a Human Being

  • @TheJuventinatosta Italian Spoiled Racist You bring shame to Italy, a Country I love
