Minnie Stevenson found out she'd won big in Virginia's Win for Life game when she checked the newspaper for the winning numbers in the December 14 drawing.
"I looked at my husband and said, 'Oh my gosh, we're the winners!'" she later told Virginia Lottery officials.
The ticket was bought at Jiffee Mart, 806 Grubert Avenue in Staunton. It matched the first six numbers to win the game's top prize. She'll receive $1,000 per week for the rest of her life.
On December 19, she and her husband returned to the store to receive the first in a lifetime of checks from Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto. The store received $10,000 from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
The winning numbers for that drawing were 9-25-27-35-37-39 and the Free Ball was 29. Her husband bought the winning ticket using Easy Pick, in which the computer randomly selects the numbers on the ticket.
When asked what she plans to do with her winnings, Ms. Stevenson replied, "It's going to be a good Christmas."
