So Microsoft says that Windows 7 will run on a minimum of 1GHz/1GB? Let's see if that's true, and if so, how usable it actually is.

You may be surprised by the outcome.

  • Guess these won't die in 2014! :-)

  • @an65001 They wouldn't have to anyway. I'm sure a lot of people will continue running Windows XP for some time to come, myself included. I'm still using Windows 2000 in places.

If you can go the non-Microsoft route, these machines will run Linux or BSD quite nicely.

  • Believe it or not, that's actually faster than my computer XD

  • @KnucklesARouge I could believe it. Great username, BTW.

  • Windows 7 did not like that computer. Damn my computer can boot up way faster than that. and my computer is way faster than that. Windows 7 does not like my Acer Asprie Series 5516 Laptop

  • @cbreshears795 What you saw must have been different from the video I posted. Windows 7 ran quite well on this computer and would have been usable for lots of things.

To compare this to newer computers is to miss the point. I'm trying to demonstrate how Windows Vista wouldn't have done nearly as well on vastly more capable hardware.

I was ready to take out my calendar rather than my clock. :P

  • @brandonlacavera I'm not sure why you'd say that. This is most definitely a Windows 7 release candidate running on a Pentium III Compaq Deskpro EN.

  • speedfan don't show me my temp too. i have a dell dimension 8200 from 2001. don't think there is even sensors on this computer. speccy shows me the temp of the harddrive though.

  • man that was good. i would say another video card would make it play youtube better.

  • Windows 95 sticker

  • Great video, just another reason why I love 7 and loathe Vista.

  • @an65001 i disagree. a class of p4 called pentium d. In terms of features, price and performance at a given clock frequency, Pentium Dual-Core processors were positioned above Celeron but below Core and Core 2 microprocessors in Intel's product range. The Pentium Dual-Core was also a very popular choice for overclocking, as it can deliver high performance (when overclocked) at a low price.

    ( per wiki and intel. ) i was slightly incorrect a pentium d. structurally a dual core. @ 3.2

  • @uxwbill I am also using Windows 2000. What's frightening is how long it will be usable.

  • @yamahonkawazuki There is no such thing as a dual-core P4. You probably have a P4 HT which has dual CPU threads.

  • I had windows 7 running just fine on 700mhz cpu, and 512mb of ram
