@XStoneDeadForeverX Real Metal. Anything that is Metal. Showing the characteristics of Metal music. You're able to trace back every genre, and the bands that play it, back to its roots. Metal riffs, Metal sounds, Metal attitude, blah blah blah. Metal is what makes Metal Metal.

When people say "fake" Metal, they mean genres that are often confused as Metal, or bands that are severely commercial and have lost all original Metal meaning, even if they play the music.

@XStoneDeadForeverX Of course you would take characteristics of Punk and apply it to Metal. They're essentially brothers, intertwined in history from countless times of co-mingling and huge influences on each other. The majority of Metal, and the attitude behind it, is incredibly close to that of Punk, far more than anything else.

So. What? Actually taking the time to explore the genre and learn it.. Doesn't mean I explored the genre and learned it? Are you.. stupid?

Just because you listen to little known or so called "underground" bands doesn't make you the authority on ANYTHING, much less what constitutes "real metal". @XStoneDeadForeverX At most real Metal shows, the only defence you'd get for Pantera is "Well, Power Metal was good". Because pre-Groove Pantera is the only time they were actually good. Everyone else realizes how fucking horrible they were. My dislike of Pantera isn't an isolated feeling: most metalheads who know more than 5 bands and actually like the genre, hate the entire 90's Brocore/Groove Metal wave as a whole, because it was one of the worst/commercial things to ever call itself "Metal".

Of course! It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Metal is anti-mainstream/anti-popular, and always has been, and always will be, an underground genre of music, where there is only a handful of bands that are popular at any time.
