  • I sat and wept as I listened to this video. This book is so full of truth. I have had 2 sons and a son in law go to Iraq and come home changed forever. My youngest son also was a kid of 19 and came home a very changed man. His unit escorted convoys up and down the roads of Iraq. His brother in law served in Samarra, Iraq in 2004 - 05 at a time when even Iraqis did not want to go there. He too is so changed. I am proud of all of them but ache for the the parts of them that were lost.

  • This is breathtaking. I will get this book, and I will read it, as I find more comfort in staring straight into hard reality than I do in escapist fantasies. Thank you, Sue, for sharing your family with us and your deepest thoughts on being the mother of a brave and noble son. Thank you, Roman, for your service to our country.

  • I've got the book, can't bring myself to open it. My son served in the Korengal Valley, Aftghanistan, the deadliest field of combat in the war there. He'll never be the same. Reach out to these vets, especially you older vets, as they often shut out civilians, even their loved ones.

  • @anniecat50 Keeping your son in our prayers!

  • Thanks Sue... and thanks to Dave Jenest of Operation Homefront Sacramento, Inc. & Patriot Defenders Network, Inc. for sharing.

  • I just received this book, published a month after my son, a soldier in the 1-502, was wounded in Afghanistan. He is back on the frontlines...to serve alongside his buddies. This reflects my own heart as I wait and worry for my son's safe return home.

    Thank-you.
