  • That would be the "Dialogue on Flowers" or "Matching Flowers", a folksong from Northern China, often sung as a duet. A lad would ask what flower blooms during a particular month. The girl would reply with the appropriate flower, e.g. Rhododendron or "Welcoming Spring" flower for the first month in the lunar calendar ... Begonia or "Hai Tang" flower for the second month and so on ... (the species varies by the province)

  • I have heard the melody played at the beginning by a girl singer in duet with a man. It's is an old recording and it has a poetic recitative in the middle of the song, but as the title is in chinese, I don't know the name of the song. Much music, western and oriental, has been inspired in traditional or folk songs. Thanks for a beautiful posting.

  • Yeah, that's Chinese symphony. Since last century we have had quite some composers doing symphony, combining western music form with Chinese traditional music. Hope you like it!
