Yes, they both may have been drinking. A very popular but powerful concoction in 1958 was vodka & Milk of Magnesia...it was called a "Phillips Screwdriver".
-
why do you hate Ian Fleming that much? He's the creator of JAMES BOND for Christ's sake! show more respect.
-
Chandler was being nice - Fleming wasn't a good writer, he was passable at his best.
Chandler was quite the sloppy raconteur.

2:13 Chandler: "I don't think I ever in my own mind, think anybody's a villian." Great quote.
-

@kp9952 I think he sounds more like Jonathon Miller. Ever so posh.
-
Fleming isn't slurring, he's simply talking without moving his upper lip... :-)

"Blunt-instrument: with a gun? One University trained journalist/researcher, and one rough-shod tell it as it is, sort of guy!"
"What did you want to shoot them for?"
"I just thought they were better dead!"
This line and Chandler's laugh are goddamn hilarious.

"I am an occasional drinker, the kind of guy who goes out for a drink and wakes up in Singapore with a full beard".
