Here in the Pacific Northwest, there was always a third entry in the Jazz Fusion sweepstakes/late 70's, ...
Jeff Lorber, Tom Grant and our subject for this video clip, Dan Siegel all recorded with regularity in the early heyday of the Jazz Fusion genre (which later morphed into Smooth Jazz).
You could say with some assuredness that these three keyboardists pretty much sailed that ship and brought lots of sailors with them on the journey.
Dan Siegel, originally from Eugene, OR. recorded for Inner City Records with his first efforts, and later with Elektra and still has much output in the Jazz, and even New Age categories.
This performance was at the '83 Mt. Hood Festival of Jazz, and the band performs the Siegel composition "Soaring"
personnel:
Dan Siegel keyboards
D J Pratt guitar
Lester McFarland electric bass
Moyes Lucas drums
Richard Cole saxophones
@marklev222, great music, indeed! I remember catching Siegel double billing with Keiko Matsui back in the summer of '90 or '91. What a great show they both put on. I remember this beautiful piano solo Siegel performed that led to into Rhapsody. Man, that brought the house down.

Dan Siegel is a class act. He helped pioneer (along with other greats) as Joe Sample, Dave Grusin, Jeff Lorber, David Benoit and others a very melodic and 'smooth' form of keyboard oriented Jazz. The 80's were definately the heyday of inspired smooth jazz artists. Dan Seigel has a lot of timeless and beautiful music during this time and beyond. Thanks for posting this! It brings back many great memories. I wish there were other videos of his great music. C'mon Dan, please release a DVD!!
