How about electromagnetic damage? Different types of lens for lasers which alters the focalisation ultimately influencing optimal range , the damage modifier of lasers which alters the electromagnetic and thermal damage. Kinetic damage, explosive. All this technology wise of Eve is also educational in terms of science physics which is plenty. Jamming, warp disruption, tracking disruption, mining for minerals in asteroid belts...I'm running out of characters here..and I will be flagged for spam.

battlestar galactica online is crap but black prophecy looks cool but if you want a game that seems to have a combat system similar to sto then try pirates of the burning sea by sony because it has the same combat system just on water not in space.
