I don't think he needs to that much the problem was in the running game last year and with that secondary he's fast enough to keep up with tight ends and he's a sure tackler. The 9-technique opened up the linebackers and put them on the spot in running plays. He's better than the linebackers we have now and with Demeco and him and maybe Chaney or Rolle it's gonna be fine. That line is getting to the quarterback.

Like MrPJfresh said when Reid had Jim johnson our defense was a beast! Hard nosed tough and hard hitting. i am sure youtube can provide u with some videos of it.

but you are half right. the defense was johnsons baby. he made all the calls. Now reid had to step in and get new guys. McDermet and Castillo. its been rough.

This year I think we will have a tough defense again. The trading of Samuels tells me we arnt playing soft any more. time for the Eagles D to go hard again.

Hahaha, wow... the 9 technique is in reference to the defensive line and where they line up prior to the snap. The Eagles run a 4-3 defense and primarily have their D-ends in a 9 technique (hence the name wide-9).

The Eagles have consistently had some of the best defenses in the league with Reid and Jim Johnson... unfortunately Jim Johnson passed, and B-Dawk was traded, and last time I checked the Eagles had the 8th ranked D in the league last season with a new coordinator, all new players, and no offseason

im not saying to run the 3-4 right now, obviously wed have to rebuild the defense. ive seen enough of Reids defense over the years to know that it doesnt work. think about it, football teams take on the attitude of their coach (look at the 49ers and jim harbaugh--hes a crazy bastard and so are his players). Reid is soft, soft , soft and so are his defenses. I want a smart, hard nosed coach. thats what Philly is SUPPOSED to be about--physical, violent defense and a punishing offense

You can't just switch. What would you do with Trent Cole, Jason Babin, Cullen Jenkins, Demeco Ryans, Fletcher Cox etc. Non can really play 3-4 and be effective.
