This team won due to the arrogance of their opponents, their hard work and gritty play, and a legitimately skilled club. But the romantic notion of this miracle speech and one man leading them to victory over the Soviets was just too much for US sports writers. So they took the story, and in typical American fashion, twisted it into some kind of self-deserving heroic epic about one man and his defeat of a political enemy of the US. Yes, he was a good coach. No, this was NOT a miracle.
Ha! Welcome to the internet. But alright. First of all, many of the players on the US team had already been signed to NHL clubs before the tournament even began. These were not no name college kids with little skill. Second, the Soviets didn't have a stacked team. Many were in the Army and played hockey as a casual sport, not professionally. The USSR mainly relied upon 6 top players. The US team, while lacking real superstars, were a far deeper team.
wow... im not originally an English speaker so you are going to take a shot at my grammar and spelling... classy. perhaps its because you have yet to come up with a relative argument to counter what i have said... We where talking about a coach weren't we? when did this become about me...
there are alot of coaches who have one Olympic gold, but none with a collage team... jackoff Oh and he was the youngest couch with 100 wins in the NHL... but no one is FUCKING counting are they!
Did I not say that the Olympic gold WAS an achievement? Because after reading my original post, I believe I did. But what else did he do? What achievement does he have that no other coach has? Because there are LOTS of coaches who have won Olympic gold, and gone on to win other major events as well. The gold was great, but one win doesn't make a legend.
