Wilbur Kentwell was the best Hammond Organist Australia Produced. Now his music can be heard by the world. This is not just a rare recording. It is the ONLY one! Recorded on tape in a small room at the Palm Beach Hotel Gold Coast Queensland Australia in 1962. The recording was made direct onto Philips quarter inch tape....recorded on a philips reel to reel tape machine. Wilbur plays a Lowrey Holiday Organ. This is part one. The tape was sent to Australian Navy Personnel in the UK who were assigned to bring back ships to Australia. The recording was addressed to Sub Lt G Sloper. I believer Graeme Sloper achieved high status in the Royal Australian Navy. I hope Graeme will see and hear this recording again after all these years. Part two will follow soon

  • As a young pianist during the 50's, i loved our rare visits to the Savoy Picture Theatre at New Lambton, NSW.

Wilbur Kentwell played the (Wurlitzer?) theatre organ there pre the movie and during the interval with great aplomb.

He gave me the drive to continue practicing when i had no natural inclination to do so, enabling me to enjoy a lifetime of making music.

    Thanks for the Up..

  • Must admit I'd never quite heard of Wilbur before, actually back in 1962 my music world it was surrounded by mostly the giant theatre organs of the day or Piano which is of course what I played back then, but this clip has made really interesting viewing.thanks for sharing..

    best wishes.

    Ronnie..

  • Playing the Hammond, the Lowrey, the theatre organ - Wilbur Kentwell always sounds quite excellent!

    Greetings from Norway.

  • Good work on loading this particularly fine and nostalgic recording, Stephen. I'll link it.
