Rand Paul, son of former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, called on cyberspace supporters to help him meet a single-day fundraising goal of $1 million. By mid-afternoon, he had banked more than $300,000, pushing his overall total since May to more than $500,000.

I think it shows were a formidable force, Paul said Thursday evening, though he was still well short of his goal. I think were within striking distance of winning this race without having campaigned that much.

Paul, an ophthalmologist from Bowling Green, borrowed the fundraising idea from his father, a Texas congressman who banked $6 million in a single day for his presidential campaign last year.
